As someone who is enthusiastic about sport, this course gives you the opportunity to turn your passion into a Level 3 Vocational Qualification that can take you onto a variety of sport-related post-18 options.
The course will ensure you have the opportunity to continue your existing love of sport through both theory and practical modules. If you are passionate about the importance of sport, and furthering your understanding of the human body, the psychology behind athletes’ mentalities and becoming a more knowledgeable sportsperson yourself, you will be able to achieve success in your study of the theory course. As well as this, the Extended Diploma will also give you ample opportunity to play a number of sports, honing your skills in both performance and coaching.
Course Content/Main Topics
Learners will study mandatory content areas:
• Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science
• Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology
• Coaching for Performance and Fitness
• Field and Laboratory-based Fitness Testing
• Functional Anatomy
• Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Performance
• Sport and Exercise Physiology.
There is then a range of optional units for further study, which have been designed to support progression to sport and exercise science courses in higher education.
Careers and Higher Education
The Sport BTEC L3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is a two-year course that is equivalent to three A-levels. When you have finished the course you can use it to:
Begin a career in the Sports Industry
Continue on to a further sports specific training course
Progress alongside other qualifications to go onto higher education at university
This course could open up possible career choices from the areas of – Teaching and Education, Health Sciences, Sports Coaching, Personal Training, Sports Management, Sports Journalism and many more.

Entry Requirements
You should have the following qualifications: 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above to include English, maths, and science (grade 4 and above), PE is desirable at grade 4 or above.
An interest and active participation in sports and fitness is essential along with an interest in the science behind the sport.
